Quidd will serve as the exclusive platform for fans to obtain these unique digital assets, unlocking a variety of special advantages, including merchandise, hospitality tickets, and memorable experiences, all aimed at making fans feel truly appreciated.
Quidd’s CEO Michael Bramlage highlights the importance of the partnership, stating;
“This collaboration signifies our goal to transform the realm of sports collectibles, making it logical for Quidd to partner with Manchester City, the most innovative and forward-looking soccer club globally.”
Tom Boyle, Vice-President of global partnerships marketing and operations at City Football Group, shared his enthusiasm regarding the collaboration’s potential to modernize the traditional football hobby of collecting cards and memorabilia in the rapidly evolving tech landscape.
Boyle added,
“We’re thrilled to help modernize the traditional football hobby of cards and collectibles in a new digital era alongside Quidd, allowing us to further engage with our fans worldwide.”
The initial offering of the partnership will include over 200 custom player cards, which will be available on May 2 via the advanced Quidd marketplace.
To celebrate the launch, the first 10,000 Cityzens, the affectionate term for Manchester City supporters, will receive two complimentary packs and exclusive access to additional “For The Fans” packs within 72 hours of the release.
Cityzens who unlock digital rewards through the Quidd packs will also have the chance to participate in real-world events and purchasing opportunities, including official Manchester City merchandise and hospitality tickets, as well as winning “money-can’t-buy experiences,” such as an exclusive chance to observe a first team training session at the City Football Academy.
This initiative engages fans in a fresh digital collecting experience and rewards their loyalty with exclusive benefits and privileges.
This collaboration with Quidd represents Manchester City’s latest entry into the NFT domain. It builds upon prior initiatives that attracted significant attention in the sports and crypto sectors.
From commemorating significant moments in the club’s rich history to promoting women’s football and empowering fans to engage in exclusive NFT drops, Manchester City continues to advance the frontiers of innovation and strategic partnerships within the sports industry.
Manchester City Leading in Crypto & Web3 Adoption
Manchester City has been actively delving into the NFT arena, with recent efforts including the launch of its “Unseen City Shirts” NFT collection on the OKX blockchain on April 22.
This collection features limited NFTs associated with physical, limited-edition jerseys showcasing hand-painted artwork. Additionally, the club collaborated with Sony in 2022 to create a virtual version of Etihad Stadium, reportedly making it the first officially licensed football stadium constructed in the metaverse.
Moreover, Quidd’s partnership with Manchester City enhances the club’s impressive lineup of global sponsors, which includes top-tier partners such as airline Etihad Airways and sportswear manufacturer Puma. These collaborations have significantly contributed to the club’s record revenue during the 2022–23 Premier League season.
Importantly, this partnership marks Quidd’s second collaboration with a professional football team for the release of themed trading cards. Last month, Quidd established a similar multi-year partnership with Newcastle United, marking the football club’s inaugural foray into digital collectibles.
Manchester City’s involvement in the NFT sector is already well-established, with previous initiatives such as collaborating with PUMA to release an NFT drop commemorating the tenth anniversary of its first Premier League victory and launching the “Same City, Same Passion” NFT collection celebrating women’s football.
Additionally, OKX is collectively striving to position itself at the forefront of mass adoption. Last year, OKX signed a $70 million agreement to become Manchester City’s official sleeve sponsor, which underscores this effort.
Manchester City also leverages all these initiatives to establish itself at the forefront of innovation, creating new pathways for fan interaction, revenue generation, and engagement.
