Make-A-Wish International Requests Cryptocurrency Contributions This Holiday Season

Make-A-Wish is seeking cryptocurrency contributions through its collaboration with digital asset donation platform The Giving Block, as indicated in a press release from the nonprofit organization this week.

Make-A-Wish Seeks Holiday Crypto Contributions

As per the Make-A-Wish press release, the Phoenix-based organization aims to boost cryptocurrency donations this year in an effort to enhance their outreach to seriously ill children ahead of the holiday period.

The foundation projects that 100,000 children will receive a diagnosis of a critical illness in December alone, with 98% of children and their parents stating that the experience is significant for an ill child.

“Supporting charitable causes with cryptocurrency conveys that crypto serves a purpose beyond mere financial profit—it can transform lives and generate meaningful social impact,” remarked Luciano Manzo, President and CEO of Make-A-Wish International.

“Critical illness robs childhood from a child, but by helping to fulfill wishes, this distinctive group of donors has the ability to restore childhood and foster resilience in these children,” he added.

The Giving Block Highlights Crypto Donation Statistics

The announcement of Make-A-Wish’s appeal for crypto donations comes amid a growing interest in the capacity of digital assets to drive significant social change.

According to The Giving Block’s 2024 Annual Industry Report on the State of Crypto Philanthropy, it is estimated that over $2 billion worth of cryptocurrency will have been donated by January 2024.

In addition, more than 56% of leading U.S. charities currently accept cryptocurrency donations – including St Jude’s Children Research Hospital, United Way, Direct Relief, Feeding America, and Good 360 – marking a 12% increase from the previous year.

Furthermore, nearly 68% utilize The Giving Block’s services to fundraise digital assets.

Make-A-Wish’s partnership with The Giving Block began years ago, enabling “children facing critical illnesses such as cancer and neurological conditions to look forward to having their wishes fulfilled.”

As stated in the organization’s latest press release, the collaboration has allowed Make-A-Wish to broaden its initiatives into three additional countries.

“Cryptocurrency represents the most significant intersection of wealth, youth, and the desire to give. With 600 million users worldwide and trillions of dollars invested, nonprofits that do not engage with this movement risk being left behind,” stated Pat Duffy, Co-Founder of The Giving Block.
