Brian Rose, a candidate for Mayor of London, revealed on Wednesday his intention to provide city residents with £100 in a new cryptocurrency token if he is elected, as part of his initiative to transform the capital into a “crypto-friendly city.”

The token, named $LONDON, would be financed through a 1% tax on conventional banks and could be utilized by residents to “settle council bills, parking fines, and more.”

Created for residents of varying abilities to utilize, invest, or trade, Rose is confident that this innovative token would enhance the purchasing power of city residents and facilitate greater access to cryptocurrencies.

“Cryptocurrency represents the future, and I believe the LONDON token, with its inherent utility and substantial liquidity pool, is an ideal means to deliver essential financial education to every individual in Greater London,” Rose stated.

Will London Emerge as Crypto’s Hub?

Rose is among thirteen candidates vying to become London’s next mayor in the election scheduled for May 2. Current mayor Sadiq Khan is leading in the polls, with British Conservative Party candidate Susan Hall following closely.

A former Wall Street banker turned media entrepreneur and founder of the London Real Party, Rose previously ran for mayor in 2021.

He has gained notoriety for promoting conspiracy theories and misinformation, leading to YouTube removing his media company’s channel, London Real, in 2023.

In 2020, the UK’s Office of Communications reprimanded the capital’s television station, London Live, for violating national broadcasting regulations during Rose’s interview with David Icke, a prominent conspiracy theorist.

As part of my commitment to making London a crypto-friendly city, I am excited today to announce my new campaign policy as your next Mayor to give every person in London £100 worth of a new capital crypto token.

Recently, Rose released a feature-length documentary titled “We Will Not Be Silenced,” which addresses the repercussions of his interview with Icke.

According to his campaign website, Rose aims to restore London as the “financial capital of the world” by positioning it as “the hub of the crypto, , and blockchain sectors.”

The United Kingdom is home to one of the largest cryptocurrency economies globally, with over $1.39 billion in cryptocurrency profits recorded last year.

Just last month, the London Stock Exchange (LSE) announced plans to introduce Bitcoin and Ethereum exchange-traded notes (ETN) on May 28.

If elected, Rose believes his cryptocurrency policy could enhance London’s prospects of becoming a significant center for emerging technologies in the near future.

“I think this new initiative will motivate the next generation of leaders to prioritize financial education, as well as lay the groundwork for London to become a center of excellence for these groundbreaking technologies,” he remarked.

Rose’s candidacy represents a pivotal moment for cryptocurrency advocates as they strive for legitimacy in political elections globally.
