Sassaman was a key figure within the cypherpunk movement and a participant in the Internet Engineering Task Force, having authored several works on cryptography that have fueled speculation regarding his involvement in the inception of Bitcoin.

Other potential candidates for the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto include Californian software developer Hal Finney, who was one of the first Bitcoin adopters before his death in 2014 due to complications from ALS.

A limited number of bets have also been placed on computer scientist Nick Szabo, Blockstream CEO Adam Back, systems engineer Dorian Nakamoto, and programmer and cartel leader Paul Le Roux.

While 42% of respondents support Sassaman as the most probable candidate, 27% believe the Bitcoin creator might be someone entirely different or possibly a collective of individuals.

Will the Identity of Satoshi Nakamoto Be Disclosed?

Anticipation is rising within the crypto community as the October 8 release of HBO’s Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery approaches, a documentary that may finally disclose the true identity of Satoshi Nakamoto.

A teaser for the film directed by Cullen Hoback suggests that the filmmakers may have pinpointed Satoshi—though the trailer does not make this assertion explicitly.

If revealed, Satoshi Nakamoto would rank among the wealthiest individuals globally; estimates indicate his net worth is approximately $66 billion, attributed to his ownership of a substantial amount of Bitcoin.

The identity of Satoshi Nakamoto has remained one of the most significant enigmas in the cryptocurrency realm, with this latest poll reigniting interest and speculation.

Australian computer scientist and entrepreneur Craig Wright, who has long claimed to be the mythical crypto creator, issued a statement on his website reaffirming his assertion.

However, earlier this year, a judge in the British High Court determined that Wright is not Satoshi Nakamoto.

“The Court found that Dr. Wright extensively and repeatedly lied to the Court in his testimony and that he attempted to fabricate a false narrative by forging documents on a large scale,” states a court-ordered disclaimer on Wright’s website. “All his deceptions and forged documents were in support of his greatest falsehood: his claim to be Satoshi Nakamoto.”

Wright is now facing possible perjury charges from England’s Crown Prosecution Service due to his claim of being the unidentified Bitcoin creator.
