Three prominent cryptocurrency trade organizations urged Congress to approve the CLARITY Act in a letter dated July 11 addressed to Speaker of the House Mike Johnson and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries.

Crypto Trade Organizations Call on Congress to Approve Crypto Legislation

In the letter sent on Friday, Blockchain Association CEO Summer Mersinger, The Digital Chamber CEO Cody Carbone, and President and Acting CEO of the Crypto Council for Innovation Ji Hun Kim emphasized the necessity for U.S. lawmakers to promote the “significant” crypto legislation.

“The CLARITY Act signifies substantial advancement toward the regulatory clarity essential for our sector to encourage innovation and for blockchain technology to flourish in the U.S.,” the CEOs remarked.

“Pushing this bipartisan market structure legislation conveys a strong indication that the U.S. is dedicated to being the global leader in digital assets,” they continued.

If passed, the CLARITY Act would primarily transfer crypto regulatory authority from the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).

This shift would represent a victory for crypto advocates following years of the SEC’s regulation-by-enforcement strategy and its classification of digital assets as securities.

“As discussions progress, we urge the Senate to capitalize on the momentum from the House and collaborate closely with industry stakeholders to bring bipartisan market structure legislation to the Senate floor as soon as feasible,” the letter expresses. “We anticipate continuing our collaboration with both chambers to help ensure U.S. leadership in digital assets.”

Congress Prepares for Competing Crypto Weeks

The blockchain trade organizations’ letter arrives in advance of the Republican Party’s anticipated “Crypto Week” on Capitol Hill.

Conversely, Democratic lawmakers Maxine Waters and Stephen Lynch announced on Friday that they would initiate their own “Anti-Crypto Corruption Week” in response to the Republicans’ crypto legislative initiatives.

“My Republican colleagues are eager to continue serving the interests of the crypto industry while conveniently overlooking the vulnerabilities and potential for exploitation that exist within crypto,” Congressman Lynch stated.
