Investors Contributed More Than $2.2 Billion to Cryptocurrency Funds in 2023
The influx of capital into cryptocurrency investment projects surpassed $2.2 billion in 2023. This amount was nearly three times greater than that of 2022. Notably, Bitcoin-related products accounted for approximately 87% of the total invested capital.
As reported by CoinShares, 2023 marked one of the most prosperous years for cryptocurrency hedge funds in the last seven years. During this period, crypto funds attracted $2.225 billion. In the final week of the year alone, investors contributed around $243 million to various digital asset investment products.
The capital influx into Bitcoin products reached $1.9 billion in 2023, representing over 87% of the total funds acquired by crypto funds. Investment assets linked to Solana and Ethereum ranked second and third, with $167 million and $78 million invested throughout the year, respectively.
By the end of the year, assets under management (AUM) hit $51.04 billion, reflecting consistent growth over the year and a 109% increase year-over-year. Significantly, Bitcoin-based crypto funds led in AUM levels, holding a 60% share ($35.17 billion), followed by Ethereum with a 20% share ($9.86 billion).
Among nations, the United States emerged as the top investor in 2023, with local investors contributing approximately $792 million to various crypto funds throughout the year. Germany and Canada secured the second and third positions, with investments of $663 million and $543 million, respectively.
Analysts at CoinShares attribute the performance increase in 2023 mainly to the excitement surrounding the approval of spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs in the U.S. They also suggest that the capital influx into crypto funds is expected to persist actively in 2024, along with the growth of valuations.
Earlier this year, Bitcoin successfully surpassed the $45,000 threshold.
