A 49-year-old individual from Kolkata, India, is reported to have drowned in the Hooghly River. The initial autopsy revealed no signs of foul play, indicating that he may have taken his own life.

The man was said to have invested in stocks and bitcoin, suggesting that a potential financial loss could be a factor contributing to his tragic death.

Another Indian Jumping off a Bridge

Recent reports indicated that the Indian police discovered a body floating in the Hooghly River, several miles north of Kolkata. The identity of the individual, who had been missing since April 16, has not been revealed.

A close family member informed law enforcement that the deceased appeared to have no significant problems. He resided with his wife and son in an apartment on Roy Bahadur Road, one of the more affluent areas of Kolkata.

Further inquiries, however, suggested that he may have invested some money in stocks and bitcoin, and a decline in those investments could have led him to take such drastic action.

A local police official believes it is premature to conclude that involvement with may have contributed to the incident.

“He was employed, but we lack information regarding his investments, particularly in Bitcoin. We also do not know why he approached the river. We urge everyone not to jump to conclusions,” the officer stated.

The victim’s family has not lodged a complaint regarding any potential homicide. A comprehensive investigation will seek to uncover the reasons behind the suspected suicide.

Kolkata police faced another similar incident earlier this month when a 23-year-old man attempted to leap from a river bridge. The individual indicated that he wished to end his life due to significant losses incurred from cryptocurrency investments.

The Suicide in Lucknow

Investing in digital currencies carries inherent risks, and individuals should only invest amounts they can afford to lose. As reported by CryptoPotato in March, a second-year B.Com student from Lucknow did not adhere to this advice and took his own life after losing $4,200 in a BTC investment.

The young man fell victim to a crypto scam that promised substantial returns. However, he did not receive any profits, and the representatives of the scheme he had been in contact with stopped communicating with him. The victim experienced despair and ended his life shortly after realizing he had been defrauded.

“The body was sent for post-mortem. Its report confirmed death due to suicide… According to the preliminary investigation, the boy hanged himself after losing money,” the police reported.
