In Venezuela, a promoter of the Generación Zoe crypto pyramid was detained0

The Venezuelan police, in collaboration with Interpol, apprehended 30-year-old Rosa María González in San Cristóbal, who is accused of promoting the Argentine cryptocurrency scheme Generación Zoe, which resulted in financial losses for tens of thousands of investors.

González is charged with fleeing Argentina with 611 bitcoins, currently valued at approximately $56 million. She had been evading authorities in Buenos Aires for nearly four years with private security before deciding to cross into Venezuela. Her arrest occurred almost exactly one year after the founder of Generación Zoe, Leonardo Cositorto, was sentenced to 12 years in prison. He was detained in the Dominican Republic in 2022.

In her promotional videos, González promised Generación Zoe investors high returns—up to 70% daily on their investments. The advertisements convinced investors that the project utilized proprietary trading algorithms with “quantum security.” However, investigators assert that Generación Zoe was a typical pyramid scheme, paying early investors with funds raised from new participants.

Following the company’s collapse in mid-2022, González continued to engage in cryptocurrency activities. Reports indicate that she launched another scheme targeting Argentine investors, promising a 5% monthly profit on investments starting at $1000. González allegedly financed former associates in Venezuela to attract investors to the new project, according to the investigation. More than ten individuals fell victim to the new scheme, collectively losing $300,000.

There may be complications in extraditing González from Venezuela to Argentina, as Argentina severed diplomatic relations with Venezuela in 2024. The deterioration in relations between the two countries was triggered by Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro’s ban on the use of the country’s airspace by aircraft with Argentine licenses.

Recently, a suspected founder of a fraudulent cryptocurrency investment platform, Polyfarm, was arrested in Nigeria. He is accused of deceiving investors and misappropriating client funds for personal use.
