Hacker Compromises Binance and Offers Access to Law Enforcement Inquiry Interface
An unidentified individual has advertised on the forum the sale of access to Binance’s law enforcement request panel. The seller is demanding $10,000 in cryptocurrency for this access.
A hacker, whose identity remains unknown, has listed for sale access to the law enforcement request panel of the cryptocurrency exchange Binance. As indicated in forum posts, a buyer has already been located and has transferred a portion of the payment to the seller.
The law enforcement panel allows access to sensitive information held by the crypto exchange in response to inquiries from regulatory bodies. Responses to requests made through this panel are typically provided within 3-7 days. The panel can also grant access to personal details of the exchange’s users, including email addresses, phone numbers, documents, and even transaction IDs or wallet addresses.
The hacker is asking for $10,000 for access, with payment requested in Bitcoin (BTC) or Monero (XMR). The seller has verified their credibility through previous successful transactions involving access to other resources.
Research from Hudson Rock indicates that the hacker obtained access to Binance’s sensitive data via a third-party service named Kodex, which the exchange utilizes to authenticate law enforcement requests. The hackers successfully deployed Infostealers malware and compromised three accounts belonging to officials from the Taiwanese Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB), the Uganda Police Force (UPF), and the Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) of the Philippine National Police (PNP).
Representatives from Binance have not provided any comments regarding the incident.
Recently, Binance reached an agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice, pledging to furnish local authorities with access to all documentation, information, and data of the company upon request.
