FTX Executive Ryan Salame Requests Postponement of Prison Sentence Following Dog Incident
Ryan Salame, a former executive and co-CEO of FTX Markets, is seeking to delay his prison surrender date related to criminal charges from his tenure at Sam Bankman-Fried’s cryptocurrency exchange due to an incident involving a dog.
In a request submitted on Friday, Salame reported a “dog-bite injury to the face” after being “mauled by a German Shepherd while visiting a friend’s residence” on June 29, and he was assessed by a physician on July 3.

Attorneys representing the former crypto executive are petitioning Judge Lewis A. Kaplan of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York to reschedule Salame’s sentencing appearance from August 29 to October 13 to allow him to “receive urgent and necessary medical treatment and surgery.”

“Got bit in the face by a dog (my fault not the dogs) and all I can think is I hope this surgeon isn’t a democrat who knows I’m a republican,” Salame shared on X on June 29.
Significant portions of the former SBF associate’s correspondence to Kaplan, including images of the alleged injury, have been redacted.
Last September, Salame pleaded guilty to breaching campaign finance regulations, deceiving the Federal Election Commission, and conspiring to run an unlicensed money-transmitting operation.
The former co-CEO of FTX’s Bahamian subsidiary, FTX Markets, was officially sentenced to 7.5 years in prison in May.
FTX Executives Await Their Fate Following Sam Bankman-Fried’s Conviction
Salame’s legal issues arose after the significant downfall of Sam Bankman-Fried’s cryptocurrency exchange in November 2022, which was marked by the disclosure that FTX and its affiliate, Alameda Research, misappropriated over $8 billion in customer assets.
Bankman-Fried was found guilty in November 2022 after a month-long fraud trial that featured testimony from several former friends and employees of the FTX founder, including FTX director of engineering Nishad Singh, FTX chief technology officer Gary Wang, and Alameda Research CEO Caroline Ellison.
Currently, Bankman-Fried is serving a 25-year sentence in federal prison and has been ordered to forfeit $11 billion following his sentencing in March.
Both Singh and Wang are reportedly scheduled to be sentenced this fall for their roles in the multi-billion dollar digital asset scheme. A sentencing date for Ellison has not yet been established.
In addition to his prison term, Salame will be required to pay a total of $11 million in forfeiture and restitution for his cryptocurrency-related offenses.
