In the ever-evolving realm of SocialFi, where the competition for dominance is fierce, a particular Friend.Tech user made headlines by offloading keys valued at 850 ether () on Monday.

This action was succeeded by a transition to a competing platform, New Bitcoin City (NBC), a social application built on the Bitcoin blockchain.

NBC Rises as Friend.Tech Experiences Withdrawals

This occurrence comes at a pivotal moment for Friend.Tech, which, although it was initially a pioneer in the SocialFi sector, is now encountering intense rivalry as new prospects arise, with applications like New Bitcoin City swiftly gaining traction.

In the last two days, several notable users, including NFT influencer Pranksy and the user Vombatus, who was once the possessor of the platform’s most prized key, opted to liquidate their holdings on Friend.Tech and transition to NBC.

As per wallet data, Vombatus, recognized by the same name on both platforms, secured roughly $1.5 million after selling 176 keys. Importantly, Vombatus still retains ownership of 150 keys.

The large-scale shift to NBC has resulted in considerable alterations in the ecosystem. NBC saw an influx of around $1 million in the past day, elevating its total value locked (TVL) to over $3 million, according to DeFiLlama – in contrast, Friend.Tech experienced outflows amounting to about $2 million over the last two days.

Friend.Tech Confronts Increasing Challenges as New Opportunities Arise

Friend.Tech, recognized for allowing users to provide access to private group chats via keys, witnessed rapid expansion following its launch in August. Within three weeks, it generated millions in revenue from over 100,000 users, prompting imitations on other networks as new opportunities emerged. Consequently, Friend.Tech’s initial growth surge has plateaued. Platforms like NBC are rising as significant competitors.

New Bitcoin City, a gaming and commerce platform operating on Bitcoin, was introduced in early August. It offers a range of casual, board, and strategy games available on both web and mobile platforms. The platform also includes a native marketplace and an auction house for Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs).

A developer from New Bitcoin City, known as @punk3700, announced their goal to broaden Bitcoin’s functionality beyond mere currency, expressing aspirations to explore Art, AI, and .

Despite Bitcoin’s restricted application in Decentralized Finance (DeFi) projects, mainly through tokenized versions on alternative chains like Ethereum or Solana, the recent “Bitcoin Request for Comment” (BRC-20) standards have enabled developers to create tokens and establish DeFi applications on Bitcoin. This has resulted in digital art and meme coins based on Bitcoin in recent months.
