Ex-FTX Executive Ryan Salame Updates LinkedIn Profile to Include ‘Inmate’ Ahead of Imprisonment
Ryan Salame, who formerly served as co-chief executive at FTX Digital Markets, announced on LinkedIn on Thursday that he is beginning a new chapter as an inmate.
The ex-executive, who is set to be incarcerated at the Federal Correctional Institution in Cumberland, updated his profile to reflect new skills such as “cleaning and whittling.”
This update on LinkedIn elicited some humorous comments, including remarks like “from blockchains to being in chains,” and “they’re fortunate to have you.”

Ryan Salame Requests December Prison Surrender Amid Ongoing Medical Treatment
This week, Salame sought to postpone his prison surrender, which was initially scheduled for Oct. 11. His legal representatives cited ongoing medical treatment for injuries sustained in June 2024, requesting a new surrender date of Dec. 7.
This request follows a recent caution from a federal judge regarding potential sanctions for false statements made during his guilty plea. Salame had initially denied any agreements with prosecutors but later acknowledged that they had consented to drop a criminal investigation into his associate, Michelle Bond, in return for his cooperation.
If Salame’s request for a postponement is not granted, he will commence his 7.5-year prison sentence at a federal correctional facility this Friday.
Court Imposed $11M Restitution and 7.5-Year Sentence on FTX’s Salame
In May 2024, a court sentenced Salame to 90 months in prison, equating to seven and a half years. This decision surprised many, as prosecutors had suggested a sentence ranging from 5 to 7 years, while Salame’s defense argued for only 18 months.
In addition to the prison sentence, the court mandated three years of supervised release. Salame was also ordered to pay over $11 million in forfeiture and restitution for his involvement in FTX’s fraudulent activities.
In the United States, prison inmates typically do not have internet access due to safety and regulatory issues. However, Salame experienced an unusual incident this past summer when he was bitten by a dog, resulting in a facial injury, according to court documents.
His initial reporting date for prison, set for Aug. 29, was postponed to this month to accommodate the “urgent and necessary medical treatment and surgery” needed following the incident.
Meanwhile, Sam Bankman-Fried is currently serving a 25-year sentence at New York’s Metropolitan Detention Center for his involvement in the FTX fraud. He is reportedly housed in the same unit as Sean “Diddy” Combs.
