A group of researchers from Europe and Asia has created two algorithms that can forecast the success of cryptocurrency trading and general trends in the crypto market by examining the use of emojis on social media.
Yao-Tsung Chen, Xiaorui Zuo, and Wolfgang Karl Härdle, scholars from institutions in the PRC, Taiwan, and the EU, found that studying emojis on social media can gauge online sentiment and, as a result, predict both short- and long-term trends in the cryptocurrency market.
Based on the researchers’ initial results, emojis linked to positive sentiment online can forecast favorable market movements with nearly 100% accuracy.
The researchers developed two AI-driven algorithms that evaluated emojis, utilizing their predictions for investment strategies. The team employed the GPT-4 artificial intelligence system to analyze posts on social network X. When the chatbot identified a significant number of positive emojis in crypto-related messages throughout the day, the team purchased BTC and sold the asset the next day. This method led to consistent revenue growth.
