Eliza Labs Files Lawsuit Against Elon Musk’s X Corp, Claiming Monopoly Misconduct and Imitative AI Offerings
Eliza Labs has initiated legal action against X Corp, alleging that the company owned by Elon Musk is misusing its dominant market position to hinder competition and duplicate its technology.
Key Takeaways:
- Eliza Labs has filed a lawsuit against X Corp for purportedly exploiting its platform authority to replicate proprietary AI technology.
- The complaint asserts that X demanded a $600K yearly licensing fee, subsequently suspending Eliza’s account after it declined.
- Eliza claims that X utilized the access to duplicate its no-code AI tools and stifle competition.
The lawsuit, submitted on Wednesday in federal court in San Francisco, alleges that X leveraged its platform power to extract confidential technical information from Eliza Labs before abruptly suspending the company’s account without prior notice.
X Corp Accused of Coercing Eliza Labs Into $600K Annual License
The legal document claims that X coerced Eliza Labs and its founder, Shaw Walters, to accept an “Enterprise License” priced at $50,000 per month, totaling $600,000 annually.
Following Eliza’s refusal, both its account and Walters’ were suddenly suspended. The lawsuit contends that this action was part of a larger strategy to eliminate competition and introduce similar AI products under X’s brand.
“This case involves X Corp exercising its substantial monopoly power with a perceived shield from legal action to deplatform users,” the complaint states, noting that the company aimed to “restrict competition” in the race to deploy AI agents on its platform.
Eliza Labs is recognized for elizaOS, an open-source protocol for autonomous AI agents, which is reportedly valued at $2.5 billion.
Shaw is suing X for anti-competitive behavior
the original eliza repository utilized X’s graphQL endpoints (that our front ends query) to read and write to X. It did not utilize X’s paid API. The repository has been removed from GitHub, but forks remain active and functional

In April, the company launched a no-code AI launchpad designed to democratize agent development for individuals without programming skills.
The lawsuit further alleges that X orchestrated a “coordinated, fraudulent, and anti-competitive initiative” to gain access to Eliza’s development techniques and exploit them for its own products. X has not yet publicly addressed the allegations.
Ethereum Gaming Network XAI Sues Elon Musk’s xAI Over Trademark Dispute
Last week, Ex Populus, the organization behind the Ethereum-based gaming platform XAI, also filed a trademark infringement lawsuit against Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence firm, xAI.
The legal contention revolves around alleged marketplace confusion between Ex Populus’s federally registered “XAI” trademark and Musk’s similarly named enterprise, which was launched shortly thereafter.
Ex Populus asserts that Musk’s xAI encroached upon its territory when he revealed intentions to establish an AI game studio in late 2024, increasing confusion among consumers.
The company highlighted instances where xAI’s chatbot Grok mistakenly identified Ex Populus’s XAI brand as part of Musk’s operations, further obscuring the distinction between the two.
The lawsuit also mentioned reputational harm resulting from Musk’s contentious public image and incidents involving xAI’s AI assistant making provocative statements.
Ex Populus contended that the confusion has weakened its brand identity and noted that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has already suspended several of Musk’s xAI trademark applications.
Meanwhile, xAI has recently expressed intentions to sue Apple over alleged antitrust violations, claiming that the tech giant unfairly promotes OpenAI’s ChatGPT in App Store rankings while suppressing xAI’s Grok chatbot.
