DZ BANK to Provide Cryptocurrency Access for 700 Banks in Germany
DZ BANK Group has established a partnership with Boerse Stuttgart Digital to facilitate approximately 700 cooperative banks in Germany in providing their clients with digital asset storage and trading options. The initial traditional finance institutions are expected to gain access to cryptocurrencies by late 2024.
DZ BANK Group, the second largest banking entity in Germany, has teamed up with Boerse Stuttgart Digital, the digital asset arm of Boerse Stuttgart Group, one of Europe’s largest exchange conglomerates. Through this collaboration, DZ BANK will utilize Boerse Stuttgart Digital’s knowledge to introduce crypto trading and custody services across its cooperative banks.
The DZ BANK Group includes over 700 cooperative banks in Germany, such as Bausparkasse Schwäbisch Hall, DZ HYP, DZ PRIVATBANK, R+V Versicherung, TeamBank, Union Investment Group, VR Smart Finanz, among other specialized financial entities.
In this collaboration, Boerse Stuttgart will furnish DZ BANK Group with regulated infrastructure and technical solutions, while Boerse Stuttgart Digital will manage a crypto trading and storage platform for the cooperative banks. During the initial implementation phase, the service will be accessible to a limited group of customers who will evaluate the functionalities of the new platform in late 2024. A complete rollout is anticipated for 2025.
Matthias Voelkel, CEO of Boerse Stuttgart Group, stated that the collaboration with DZ BANK will greatly enhance the accessibility of digital assets in the area, as the proposed infrastructure is aimed at retail customers, who will gain a reliable and secure means for engaging with cryptocurrencies.
Boerse Stuttgart Group ranks as the sixth largest exchange group in Europe and possesses over 15 licenses granted by financial market regulators in Germany, Sweden, and Switzerland. Approximately 20% of the exchange’s revenue in 2024 is expected to come from Boerse Stuttgart Digital, the exchange’s infrastructure division, which offers institutional and retail trading and brokerage services, along with cryptocurrency storage solutions.
German banks are actively broadening the options available for their clients to utilize cryptocurrencies. Dwpbank has implemented a solution for trading BTC, Landesbank Baden-Württemberg has provided its clients with a service for storing digital assets, and Deutsche Bank is exploring asset tokenization and has opened access to crypto transactions via IBAN.
