Online communities are taking a moment to honor the life of Kabosu, the canine behind the Doge meme and the Dogecoin mascot, who passed away at the age of 17 on May 25.

Atsuko Sato, Kabosu’s owner, shared the news in a post on her official blog, conveying her heartfelt appreciation for the affection and support she has received over the years.

This news followed a 2022 announcement regarding Kabosu’s health, which was described as being in a “dangerous position.” However, Sato indicated that Kabosu’s passing was serene and without distress.

“Soft light streamed in through the window, amidst the beautiful morning where birds sing, she gently passed away, as if falling asleep, while being stroked by me,” she stated.

Sato also revealed plans for a farewell gathering to celebrate “Kabo-chan,” set for May 26 at Flower Kaori in Kotsu no Mori, Narita City.
