Attorneys representing Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, a former cellmate of Sam Bankman-Fried, officially submitted a notice of appeal on Monday, aiming to challenge his lengthy prison sentence.

As per a court filing dated October 20 in New York federal court, Combs intends to contest two prostitution-related convictions from July.

Combs, who received a 50-month prison sentence for these charges earlier this month, was also found not guilty of racketeering and sex trafficking allegations.

The rapper-turned-business mogul has been mandated to pay a $500,000 fine and undergo five years of supervised release.

Currently, Combs is incarcerated at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in New York City, where he previously shared a prison block with former crypto mogul Sam Bankman-Fried.

Sources informed NBC News in a September 2024 report that both Bankman-Fried and Combs were placed in a “barrack-style area” accommodating no more than 20 inmates who may have needed “special detention” due to their high-profile nature.

The facility is notorious for its harsh conditions and increased violence, particularly concerning stabbings.

In the meantime, Bankman-Fried is also in the process of appealing his 2023 conviction on seven fraud counts linked to his tenure at FTX.

The former “king of crypto” was sentenced to 25 years in federal prison for masterminding a vast digital asset scheme that resulted in FTX investors losing $8 billion.

Several former associates of Bankman-Fried testified against him, including Gary Wang, FTX’s chief technical officer, Nishad Singh, the former head of engineering for the crypto platform, and Caroline Ellison, the one-time CEO of Alameda Research.

Just over a week ago, the disgraced founder of FTX took to social media to allege that his arrest in 2022 was orchestrated to prevent him from testifying before Congress the following day.

Bankman-Fried’s next hearing is set for November 3.
