The inventory taxation model, as indicated in the report, is the favored approach and entails taxing all assets within an investor’s portfolio on an annual basis, irrespective of whether they have been sold. This implies that cryptocurrency holders in Denmark will incur taxes on their assets, even if they have not executed any sales during the year.
Rasmus Stoklund, Denmark’s Minister for Taxation, remarked that the existing tax regulations lead to inequitable taxation for numerous crypto investors. He emphasized that the forthcoming rules should be more straightforward and effective for all participants in the market.
The new stipulations also mandate that cryptocurrency exchanges and payment service providers supply transaction data for their users. This information will be accessible not only to Denmark but also to all nations within the European Union.
Despite these recommendations, the bill is not expected to be presented to parliament until 2025 and, if approved, will not take effect until 2026 at the earliest. Its outcome will rely on parliamentary discussions and final endorsement by local authorities.
