Daily Trading Volume for Spot Bitcoin ETFs Surpassed $4.5 Billion
On January 11, spot Bitcoin ETFs from 11 investment firms, which had received approval from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), commenced trading on the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE), the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), and The Nasdaq Stock Market LLC (Nasdaq). The trading volume surpassed $4.5 billion within the first 24 hours.
Spot Bitcoin ETFs made a significant impact on Wall Street, achieving a trading volume exceeding $4.5 billion on their inaugural day, as reported by Bloomberg.
On January 11, the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) facilitated trading for the following Bitcoin ETFs:
- ARKB. ARK 21Shares, with a trading volume for the day exceeding $5.9 million, closed at $46.85, peaking at $50.18.
- FBTC. Fidelity asset, with a trading volume surpassing $16.8 million, closed at $41.07 after reaching $44.40.
- GBTC. The Grayscale asset ended trading at $40.96, with a daily trading volume of $3.5 million.
- EZBC. Franklin Templeton’s asset traded at $28.48 but closed at $27.29, with trade volume nearing $2.4 million.
- BTCO. The Invesco Galaxy asset maintained a price of $49 during trading but dropped to $47.50 by the end of the day, with a daily trading volume of just over $965,000.
- HODL. VanEck’s asset began trading slightly later, resulting in a trading volume of approximately $482,000. It closed at $52.92, having reached $54.92 at one point.
- BTCW. The WisdomTree asset closed at $49.75 after hitting $52.13, with a daily trading volume of just over $131,000.
On the Nasdaq exchange:
- IBIT from BlackRock. The daily trading volume reached $37.6 million, with a closing price of $26.63.
- BRRR from Valkyrie. The trading volume for the day exceeded $676,000, with the asset closing at $13.29.
On January 11, the following Bitcoin ETFs were traded on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE):
- GBTC from Grayscale Investments. The price increased to $42.97 but closed at $40.50, with a trading volume exceeding $56 million.
- BITB from Bitwise. Trading began at $26.80 and concluded at $25.54, with a daily trading volume of $4.7 million.
- DEFI from Hashdex. Trading opened at $60, and the asset closed at $56.04, with a trading volume of $78,800 for the day.
The excitement surrounding these investment products was also reflected in Bitcoin prices. BTC reached a peak of $48,800 at one point, according to CoinGecko data. As of 12:00 (GMT+2) on January 12, the value of the leading cryptocurrency stood at $45,873. Ethereum also saw significant gains, climbing to $2,677, while the current price is $2,616. The total market capitalization of cryptocurrencies reached $1.85 trillion, subsequently declining to $1.76 trillion in the hours that followed.
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) approved 11 applications for the issuance of exchange-traded funds (ETF) based on spot Bitcoin prices, which contributed to the upward movement in cryptocurrency prices and overall market indicators.
