Crypto Investors Achieved Realized Gains of $37.6 Billion in 2023

In 2023, investors achieved $37.6 billion in realized profits from cryptocurrencies, marking a notable rise from 2022, when crypto investors faced losses.

A report by Chainalysis indicated that last year’s realized gains from crypto-assets amounted to $37.6 billion. In contrast, crypto investors experienced losses of $127.1 billion in 2022, while the previous year saw investment gains in digital assets reach a record $159.7 billion. Although the realized gains from last year are over three times lower than the peaks observed during the 2021 bull market, analysts highlight signs of market recovery.

Throughout 2023, gains remained relatively consistent. In August and September, crypto investors incurred losses of $1.5 billion and $1.4 billion, respectively. The last two months of the year proved to be the most lucrative, with realized profits for November and December 2023 totaling $15.9 billion, which is equivalent to the profits recorded by crypto investors in the first five months of the year.

The United States led globally in realized profits from digital assets, with local crypto investors earning $9.36 billion in 2023. The United Kingdom followed in second place, reporting $1.39 billion in realized profits, while Vietnam secured third place with $1.18 billion. Notably, countries that have officially banned cryptocurrencies still managed to rank in the top 10, with Chinese investors recording profits of $1.15 billion, placing them fourth.

Chainalysis analysts observed a 39% decline in the volume of illegal cryptocurrency transactions in 2023.
