Crypto Attorney John Deaton Declares Candidacy for US Senate – Will He Achieve Victory This Time?
Pro-XRP attorney John Deaton has initiated a campaign on Monday to seek the U.S. Senate seat in Massachusetts once more. He previously attempted to unseat industry critic Sen. Elizabeth Warren but was unsuccessful.
The lawyer, recognized for submitting amicus briefs in support of crypto companies in their legal disputes with the US SEC, announced his intention to run for the 2026 U.S. Senate during a recent gathering in Worcester, Massachusetts.
“It’s time for leaders who understand how to fight and achieve results. I’m running for the United States Senate to do just that,” Deaton shared on X, appealing for contributions from the crypto sector.
I’m John Deaton. I grew up with nothing, served in the Marines, and built a life and business here in Massachusetts through hard work.
Families are struggling while career politicians like Ed Markey are absent and out of touch.

This time, he will contend against Democrat Sen. Ed Markey, who proposed legislation in 2023 aimed at regulating crypto energy consumption.
John Deaton Had Well-Financed Campaigns – What About This Time?
The prominent figure in Crypto Twitter gained national recognition last year while campaigning as a pro-crypto candidate against Warren. He maintained a well-funded campaign until the conclusion but ultimately lost to Warren by nearly 20 points.
For example, a crypto-backed political action committee (PAC) contributed $850,000 to support Deaton’s Massachusetts Senate primary in 2024.
Additionally, Gemini’s Winklevoss Twins each donated $500,000 in Bitcoin to Deaton to “unseat” Elizabeth Warren and “put an end to” her opposition to crypto. They referred to Deaton as a “pro-Bitcoin, pro-crypto, and pro-business candidate.”
While numerous players in the crypto industry oppose Markey due to his firm stance against the asset class and his vote against the GENUIS stablecoin bill, the assertive pro-crypto Trump administration has eased tensions in the industry this year. Consequently, crypto is playing a less prominent role this time. Deaton’s recent campaign page does not reference pro-crypto policies should he be elected.
The website accepts donations in various cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, XRP, and memecoins like BONK and Dogecoin.
Massachusetts Struggles to Become Bitcoin-Friendly
The Bay State’s Bitcoin reserve bill faced an early challenge last month as state lawmakers remained unresponsive, providing no feedback on the proposal.
The bill, titled An Act Relative to a Bitcoin Strategic Reserve, was introduced by Republican State Senator Peter Durant.
According to Bitcoin Reserve Monitor, the lukewarm response has placed Massachusetts on the expanding list of delays.

Moreover, a town in South Hadley, Massachusetts, is contemplating a ban on crypto ATMs, citing concerns regarding fraud and money laundering.
