Crypto Adoption in iGaming Decreased in 2023
Despite the global iGaming betting volume increasing by 51.2% in 2023, a significant number of users continue to favor fiat currencies. Although the volume of crypto betting also rose, its proportion of the overall total decreased by 3.9% throughout the year.
SOFTSWISS, a prominent provider of technological solutions for the iGaming sector, released a report regarding the use of cryptocurrencies in the gambling market over the past year. The findings indicate that the total number of bets in the industry surged by 51.2% throughout 2023.
The report reveals that the volume of iGaming betting conducted with cryptocurrencies saw a slight decline in 2023. Specifically, it accounted for 31.4% of the total in 2022 and dropped to 27.5% in 2023. Nonetheless, despite the reduction in the percentage of crypto bets, the absolute figure increased notably. In 2023, gamblers engaged with digital assets 21.1% more frequently.
It is also important to highlight that while iGaming participants lean towards digital assets over fiat currencies, the average bet amounts vary. For instance, the average fiat bet was €0.8 in 2023, whereas the average crypto bet amount fell between €1.59 and €1.88.
The leading cryptocurrencies within the gambling industry during 2023 included:
