Coffeezilla Addresses Logan Paul’s Defamation Lawsuit, Describes It as Effort to Stifle Inquiry

In a video released on August 5, YouTube figure Stephen Findeisen, widely recognized as “Coffeezilla,” discussed the recent defamation lawsuit filed by Prime co-founder Logan Paul. Findeisen claims that the lawsuit is “baseless” and may serve as an effort to hinder further inquiries into Paul’s actions.

He has accused Paul of executing a significant scam through his CryptoZoo NFT initiative. In a series of videos, Findeisen has aimed to help affected purchasers recover their investments.

Although Paul announced a $2.3 million refund program, Findeisen criticized this initiative as inadequate, covering merely 12% of the losses. He asserted that those who accepted the refund would have to relinquish any further legal claims.

Is Logan Paul Attempting to Suppress Criticism Through Legal Means? Coffeezilla’s Remarks Prompt Inquiry

On June 27, 2024, Logan Paul initiated a 47-page defamation lawsuit against Coffeezilla, alleging defamation concerning videos related to Paul’s non-fungible-token (NFT) venture, CryptoZoo. The lawsuit accuses Coffeezilla of making false assertions and claiming that Paul was running a scam.

Paul’s lawsuit focuses on Coffeezilla’s reporting of CryptoZoo, particularly two videos and a tweet where Coffeezilla called for full refunds for the victims. The lawsuit contests Coffeezilla’s depiction of Paul’s conduct and accuses him of having malicious intent.

Paul is also pursuing $75,000 in damages. Just over a month later, Findeisen has responded to the claims.

Coffeezilla also pointed out that Paul, who had previously lauded his investigative efforts, might weaken his own case. The YouTuber suggested that Paul’s earlier praise of his journalism indicates a lack of genuine malice, which is essential to substantiate a defamation claim.

He stressed that Paul’s continued success with Prime implies that his reputation as a scammer was already established prior to Findeisen’s videos.

In his response, Coffeezilla raised questions about the timing of Paul’s lawsuit, noting that it followed shortly after he featured Paul in a video teaser and sought a comment.

He proposed that the lawsuit might be more about silencing him than about achieving a legal victory.

Coffeezilla concluded by asserting his belief that Paul’s actions were aimed at suppressing his reporting.

“Paul can attempt to silence me by weaponizing the law, suing me for doing my job, and for asking questions,” he stated.

Lawsuit or Diversion from Complex Fraud Allegations?

CryptoZoo, a project initiated by Logan Paul, has encountered significant backlash and legal challenges due to allegations of fraud and mismanagement.

The Canadian government recently charged one of Paul’s affiliated companies, Liquid Marketplace, with involvement in a multi-layered fraud. This new investigation was reportedly the impetus for the lawsuit against Coffeezilla.

Coffeezilla noted that the lawsuit arose as he sought comments from Paul regarding his role in the Liquid Marketplace situation, which the Ontario Securities Commission accused of being a “multi-layered fraud” on June 24.

Paul had previously announced a $2.3 million buyback initiative on January 4, offering to repurchase CryptoZoo NFTs at their original price. However, Findeisen criticized the buyback initiative, suggesting it had hidden motives.

He contended that users who accepted the refund would need to forfeit their claims against Paul and highlighted that the buyback only pertained to NFTs, leaving those who acquired Zoo tokens without any compensation.

Coffeezilla characterized the lawsuit as “groundless, meritless, and frivolous,” asserting that for the lawsuit to hold validity, Paul would need to prove financial losses or reputational harm.

He pointed out that Paul had already faced allegations of pump-and-dump schemes prior to Findeisen’s investigation into the CryptoZoo project.
