ByBit Breach Highlights Demand for Self-Custody as Web3 Wallets Top $10.5M in ICO Funding

Finest Pockets’s ($BEST) funding achievement continues to make headlines week after week as it reached $10.5 million on Monday.

The latest influx of funds into its presale follows the ByBit hack, which resulted in $1.4 billion being stolen from the exchange.

This highlights the increasing interest in self-custody wallets as a more secure method to protect digital assets.

Finest Pockets not only offers this security but also features that have made it a preferred choice among investors in less than a year.

Currently, Finest Pockets’s funding stage prices each token at $0.0241 for the next 11 hours before the next round raises the price.

With the presale running for over three months, Finest Pockets may be approaching its funding target. Missing out now—while $BEST is at one of its lowest prices—could be akin to passing on a presale for a superior version of MetaMask.

ByBit aftermath drives the transition to non-custodial solutions like Finest Pockets

Dubai-based ByBit experienced a hack on February 21 that compromised its cold wallet.

The perpetrator, believed to be North Korea’s Lazarus Group, utilized a “masked” URL to deceive signers into believing it was legitimate by Secure.

By altering the contract logic, the hacker was able to gain control of the cold wallet.

In response to the attack, ByBit acted swiftly to restore its ability to back investor assets 1:1.

According to Lookonchain, the exchange received 446,870 ETH—valued at $1.23 billion at current prices—through loans, large deposits, and ether purchases over the past two days.

The incident underscores the growing sophistication of hacks targeting multi-signature cold storage solutions.

Former Binance CEO CZ noted that despite using different multi-sig providers, both WazirX and Phemex experienced similar breaches, highlighting the increasing risks in the industry.

CZ emphasized the necessity for users to safeguard their assets, referencing a 2020 article he authored on the fundamentals of doing so.

Last week, he also advocated for using wallets for daily crypto transactions instead of relying solely on exchanges, which remain prime targets for attacks.

Some thoughts on the recent hack(s).
There’s a pattern where hackers have been able to steal large amounts of crypto from multi-sig “cold storage” solutions, as with ByBit, Phemex, WazirX, and possibly others. In the latest ByBit case, the hackers were able to make the…
