The remains of Fernando Pérez Algaba, a cryptocurrency millionaire who also operated a luxury car rental business, were reportedly discovered dismembered in a suitcase while he was in Argentina.

Authorities believe that the dismemberment was carried out by professionals, with an autopsy revealing that he was shot prior to the mutilation of his body.

Another Crypto Millionaire Found Dead

The Argentinian police have initiated an investigation into the enigmatic death of Fernando Pérez Algaba, whose body parts were located in a suitcase over the weekend in Ingeniero Budge, a town in the Buenos Aires province.

Algaba was reported missing on July 19 after the millionaire influencer failed to return the keys to an apartment he had rented for a week in Argentina and did not respond to phone calls.

Reports indicate that Algaba’s dismembered remains were found by children, whose parents subsequently alerted the Buenos Aires police. Upon arrival at the scene, authorities discovered Algaba’s legs and forearm in the suitcase, another arm in the stream, and later located the victim’s head and torso on Wednesday, July 26.

While the police have not yet determined the motive behind Algaba’s murder, they suspect that the dismemberment was executed by an expert, based on the precision of the cuts. An autopsy also indicated that the deceased had been shot three times before being dismembered.

Prior to his death, Algaba, aged 41, operated a luxury car and jet ski rental business in Miami, United States, before relocating to Barcelona, Spain, earlier in 2023. The victim claimed to have begun working at the age of 14 selling sandwiches and later became involved in acquiring vehicles for repair and resale.

Algaba’s endeavors appeared to have been fruitful, as the entrepreneur owned a large warehouse filled with high-end cars, jet skis, and motorcycles just 10 years later at the age of 24. His Instagram account, boasting over 900,000 followers, primarily features images of him with luxury vehicles.

The entrepreneur was also reported to be a cryptocurrency trader who managed an office in Buenos Aires with 25 employees. Algaba stated that he earned millions through his luxury vehicle rental business and cryptocurrency trading.

Murder Suspiciously Connected to Huge Debt Pile

However, Algaba appeared to be deeply in debt, with his company “Motors Lettuce SRL” having bounced checks less than a year after its inception in January 2018. This led the businessman to incur what was described as an “irrevocable” debt with the Argentinian tax authority.

The entrepreneur was also said to have encountered issues with the Barra Bravas gang, which demanded a $40,000 loan from Algaba. A message from the victim stated, “If something happens to me, everyone is already warned.” Algaba further disclosed that he had lost a significant amount of money in cryptocurrency investments.

While the investigation into the murder continues, police have apprehended a suspect in connection with the case.

Algaba’s mysterious murder follows a series of crypto-related fatalities that occurred in 2022. As previously reported by CryptoPotato, Amber Group’s co-founder, Tiantian Kullander, died in his sleep. Another case involved billionaire crypto entrepreneur Vyacheslav Taran, who perished in a helicopter crash, and MakerDAO developer Nikolai Mushegian, who reportedly drowned in Puerto Rico.
