Blockchain Technology to Regulate Trade in Dubai
Dubai Customs has announced the introduction of a new blockchain platform aimed at enhancing supply chains and minimizing customs clearance documentation. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to bolster the emirate’s status as a prominent global trade center.
Dubai Customs has launched a blockchain platform that streamlines supply chains both within Dubai and internationally. This initiative fosters digital transformation and enhances cooperation between governmental bodies and the logistics sector.
Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman of the Ports, Customs, and Free Zones Corporation, stated that this innovation demonstrates the authorities’ goal of establishing Dubai as a global center for trade and logistics. He also mentioned that the implementation of blockchain technology will reinforce Dubai’s standing in the international trade landscape.
The newly introduced blockchain solution aims to decrease the time needed for customs clearance of goods and facilitate rapid and secure commercial transactions. The use of blockchain will enhance supply chain transparency through secure data sharing and diminish the amount of paperwork involved.
Dr. Abdullah Busnad, Director General of Dubai Customs, indicated that the blockchain platform will allow for real-time monitoring of goods movement within supply chains and significantly enhance efforts to combat fraud and counterfeiting during customs clearance. Atiq Almehairi, Executive Director of the Customs Development Division at Dubai Customs, highlighted that the blockchain platform will boost service efficiency by streamlining data exchange and automating customs clearance procedures.
The Dubai authorities are actively implementing blockchain technology across various sectors. For instance, the Dubai Police employs a blockchain solution for the storage and transfer of evidence and data related to criminal cases, and some government department offices in the emirate have been established in the Metaverse. Additionally, UAE authorities are working to position Dubai as a center for the blockchain industry due to favorable conditions for cryptocurrency businesses.
