BlackRock Identifies Spot Bitcoin ETF as a Key Investment Focus for 2025
BlackRock has identified its spot Bitcoin exchange-traded fund as one of its three primary investment themes for 2025, placing it alongside Treasury bills and major US technology stocks.
Key Takeaways:
- BlackRock has designated its spot Bitcoin ETF as a leading investment theme for 2025, alongside Treasurys and large tech companies.
- IBIT has garnered over $25 billion in inflows this year, despite a decline in Bitcoin’s price.
- The fund currently outpaces its competitors significantly, underscoring Bitcoin’s importance in institutional investment portfolios.
The largest asset manager globally stated that its iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (IBIT) is grouped with an ETF that tracks short-term Treasurys and another that follows the so-called “Magnificent 7” US tech firms, which include Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet, Meta, Nvidia, and Tesla.
BlackRock’s Bitcoin ETF Attracts $25B in Inflows Despite Bitcoin’s 2025 Decline
According to market data, IBIT has attracted over $25 billion in net inflows this year, ranking sixth among all ETFs by inflows, even as it has recorded a negative return in 2025.
This performance occurs as Bitcoin has decreased by approximately 30% from its peak in October, a downturn that has not diminished investor interest.
Nate Geraci, president of NovaDius Wealth Management, remarked that BlackRock’s emphasis on IBIT indicates the firm remains confident in supporting Bitcoin throughout various market conditions.
Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas supported this perspective, pointing out that if the fund can draw $25 billion in a weaker market, the potential for growth during a stronger market could be considerably greater.

The recent inflows contribute to the approximately $37 billion IBIT attracted in 2024, bringing total net inflows since its inception to around $62.5 billion, according to Farside Investors.
This amount positions IBIT significantly ahead of its competitors, with inflows more than five times greater than those of the Fidelity Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund, its nearest rival.
BlackRock has continued to expand its crypto-related ETF offerings beyond just spot Bitcoin exposure. In September, the firm submitted a filing to register a Bitcoin Premium Income ETF, aimed at generating yield through the sale of covered call options on Bitcoin futures.
This approach would represent a transition toward income-generating products linked to digital assets.
IBIT has also distinguished itself as a notable exception on the 2025 ETF flow leaderboard, ranking sixth in year-to-date inflows despite showing a negative return for the year.
IBIT is the sole ETF among the top flow leaders that has recorded a year-to-date loss, with returns down approximately 9.6%. Nevertheless, the fund has still attracted around $25.4 billion in net inflows.
BlackRock’s Ethereum ETF Attracts $9B as Firm Broadens Crypto Offerings
The asset manager has also experienced robust demand for its Ethereum products. Its iShares Ethereum Trust ETF (ETHA) has secured over $9.1 billion in inflows this year, bringing total inflows close to $12.7 billion.
In November, BlackRock filed to introduce an iShares Staked Ethereum ETF, following regulatory updates that have provided issuers with greater flexibility to include staking features.
Despite its growing presence in the crypto space, BlackRock has thus far refrained from participating in the recent surge of altcoin ETFs linked to assets such as Solana, XRP, and Litecoin.
