Strategy Buys Bitcoin Amid MSCI Delisting Review as BTC Recovers to $81,500

Strategy added to its holdings even as an MSCI delisting review placed its funding model under scrutiny. BTC traded at $81,500 after recovering from a dip below $80,000. The question remains whether Strategy’s Bitcoin accumulation strategy will prevail.

Last week, the company purchased 267 BTC for more than $22 million, marking its sixth acquisition since August. It also spent approximately $193 million repurchasing STRC preferred shares and authorized an additional $1 billion for preferred-share buybacks, raising the total authorization to $3 billion.

Strategy has repurchased $193M of $STRC and acquired 267 $BTC. As of 10/18/26, we hold 848,517 BTC and $5.3B of USD Assets. We have also increased the size of our Digital Credit Securities Repurchase Program from $2.0B to $3.0B. $MSTR https://t.co/ea29gd1OO5

Meanwhile, MSCI is reviewing whether asset-holding companies such as Strategy should remain in its indexes, with a decision expected on November 11. Oil’s retreat helped restore risk appetite, but the index question leaves BTC with a company-specific overhang alongside broader macro uncertainty. Technical levels are now critical.

Bitcoin Price Prediction: Can BTC Reclaim $84,000 This Week?

BTC’s quote at $81,500 places it near the middle of a market range that has repeatedly tested $80,000 support. The rebound briefly carried Bitcoin above $83,000 on October 19 as oil prices eased and risk appetite improved, before stabilizing.

Technically, $82,200 and the $80,000 area serve as support markers, while the 20-day EMA is near $82,579. Resistance sits around $83,000–$84,000, with a more substantial selling zone near $87,000. An RSI below 50 and a negative MACD histogram suggest momentum has not yet confirmed a fresh upward leg.

  • Bull case: A sustained break above $84,000 could bring $87,000 back into view and revive the $90,000 target.
  • Base case: BTC continues consolidating between roughly $80,000 and $84,000 while traders weigh the MSCI decision.
  • Bear case: A close below $80,000 would weaken the rebound and raise the risk of renewed selling.

Strategy’s buying supports the long-term accumulation narrative, but it does not eliminate near-term volatility. Nor does a possible index exclusion automatically trigger BTC sales: the estimated $2.8 billion of potential selling relates to Strategy shares, while the larger concern is whether a weaker share price constrains its ability to raise capital and buy more Bitcoin.

This uncertainty can push traders to examine infrastructure plays alongside BTC exposure. Bitcoin Hyper ($HYPER) is a Bitcoin project incorporating the Solana Virtual Machine (SVM), positioning itself around faster and lower-cost execution within the Bitcoin ecosystem.
