Binance Welcomes Syrian Users After US Sanctions Are Removed – Details of Available Services

28

Binance has declared that it has reinstated a comprehensive array of crypto services for individuals in Syria, following the relaxation of US sanctions on the country under General License 25.

“For years, individuals in Syria have observed the evolution of the crypto landscape, unable to engage. Not by choice, but due to circumstances,” the exchange stated in an official announcement.

“Residents of Syria can now securely engage in the digital asset economy alongside over 270 million global Binance users.”

On May 23, the US Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) issued the license, which effectively suspends the agency’s sanctions directed at Syria. This development followed President Trump’s directive for “the cessation of sanctions against Syria to provide them with a fresh start,” during his remarks at the Gulf Cooperation Council summit in Riyadh.

Syrians Obtain Complete Access to Binance’s Offerings

Binance emphasized that Syrian residents receive “complete access to Binance products and services.” This encompasses offerings such as spot and futures trading, staking, interest products, and Binance Pay.

Additionally, Binance will support Syrians through educational programs and practical assistance.

These initiatives reflect broader efforts to enhance access to regulated financial products for Syrians. “We’re here to ensure your experience is seamless, secure, and beneficial,” stated Binance, expressing enthusiasm about welcoming the nation.

Last December, the Middle Eastern country indicated that it is contemplating the legalization of Bitcoin to revitalize its struggling economy. This includes the establishment of a comprehensive regulatory framework for Bitcoin buying, selling, trading, and mining, in alignment with international and local laws.

Crypto Arrives in Syria Amid Economic Challenges and High Inflation

The Syrian economy has contracted by more than 60% since 2010, according to World Bank estimates. Furthermore, the Syrian pound (SYP), which was previously stable, has depreciated by over 99% since that time.

“For years, economic instability and elevated inflation have left many Syrian residents reliant on remittances, informal networks, and unstable local currencies,” Binance noted. “These combined challenges have likely fueled Syria’s persistent interest in Crypto.”

Nevertheless, the war-torn nation ranked among the top 10 countries worldwide for crypto-related searches as of 2021.

With the sanctions now suspended, Syrians “can finally act on that interest,” it added.

“At Binance, we believe that financial freedom should be accessible to everyone, and we’re proud to provide genuine solutions that support Syria’s economic recovery and contribute to the growth of its digital economy, in line with international efforts and applicable regulations.”
