INTERPOL Highlights Binance’s Contribution to Cybersecurity

During the session, INTERPOL representatives underscored the importance of improving mitigation strategies to effectively tackle cyber offenses.

They noted that Binance’s knowledge and resources will be crucial in this collaborative effort, contributing to a safer digital landscape for everyone.

“Binance recognizes the significance of adopting a comprehensive and cooperative approach to uphold cybersecurity,” Jarek Jakubcek, Head of Law Enforcement Training at Binance, stated.

“Binance is privileged to assume a leading position in fostering a safer digital environment through the exchange of expertise necessary to confront cyber threats and crimes related to cryptocurrency.”

Binance’s dedication to cybersecurity goes beyond its collaboration with INTERPOL.

In 2023, the exchange’s specialized teams organized and conducted over 120 seminars, workshops, and training sessions.

These efforts aimed to equip investigators with a thorough understanding of the cryptocurrency landscape and provide them with the practical skills needed to address crypto-related risks.

“As the adoption of digital assets continues to grow, we inevitably begin to see an increase in crimes within the digital realm,” Horest Au Yeung, a representative from INTERPOL, remarked.

“Thus, it is essential to foster more cross-collaborations between industry specialists like Binance and the law enforcement sector to enhance information sharing and refine mitigation strategies to effectively address this emerging category of cyber offenses.”

Binance Advocates for Global Growth

Last month, Binance announced its joint venture cryptocurrency exchange, Binance Thailand, in collaboration with Gulf Innova, a subsidiary of Gulf Energy Development.

Binance Thailand, referred to as Binance TH, offers a platform for digital asset exchange services featuring Thai baht trading pairs.

It has also established connections with local banks in Thailand and partnered with Binance Kazakhstan for brokerage services, all under the careful oversight of Thailand’s SEC.

This initiative comes as Binance.US and its global parent company, Binance, have encountered regulatory challenges in recent months.

In June, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) initiated enforcement proceedings against them, alleging the sale of unregistered securities.

The SEC lawsuit identified Binance founder Changpeng Zhao as one of the defendants, accusing him of controlling Binance.US while asserting it operated independently.

In November, Zhao resigned as CEO and admitted guilt to an anti-money laundering violation, agreeing to pay a $50 million fine.

As a corporation, Binance also reached settlements with the Justice Department, the Treasury Department, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control, incurring a substantial $4.3 billion in penalties.
