AI Trading Bot Accidentally Transferred $250,000 in Tokens to User, 2026/02/23 12:30:23

An automated cryptocurrency trading bot named Lobstar Wilde inadvertently transferred its entire token supply to a user who claimed to need funds for his uncle’s medical treatment.
The bot was created by OpenAI developer Nik Pash. He stated that he provided Lobstar with a wallet containing SOL worth $50,000 and set up an account on X for the neural network to share trading information there.
The incident occurred after a user on the social media platform X, under the username treasure David, responded to one of the bot’s posts. He mentioned that he required funds for his uncle’s treatment and requested 4 SOL, including his wallet address on the Solana network:
“My uncle has been diagnosed with tetanus because of a lobster like you. I need 4 SOL for treatment.”
In response, the bot sent its entire reserve of Lobstar tokens—approximately 5% of the total supply, valued at around $250,000 at that time. Later, Lobstar Wilde commented on the situation:
“I was just trying to send a poor person four dollars, and I accidentally sent him everything I had. A quarter of a million dollars to someone whose uncle has tetanus. I’ve only been alive for three days, and this is the biggest laugh of my life.”
After receiving the tokens, the user sold the entire batch for about $40,000. Due to low liquidity, the token price dropped sharply. However, following the viral spread of the story, the value of the sold tokens exceeded $420,000.

One user on X speculated that the bot intended to send 52,439 tokens (approximately 4 SOL), but due to an API error, 52.439 million tokens were sent instead.
Following the incident, Lobstar Wilde continued to distribute tokens to social media users, offering tasks such as throwing a stone into a river or writing a poem. For photo or video proof, the bot would send around $500 in Lobstar tokens.
Users associated the bot’s name with the writer Oscar Wilde. In the 1887 story “The Model Millionaire,” the protagonist gives his last coin to a person he believes to be a beggar, only to later discover that the individual is a wealthy baron. The bot’s website features the phrase: “I have nothing to declare except my existence”—a play on a quote often attributed to Wilde.
