Worldcoin reports 4 million app installations and 1 million users currently active.

The iris-scanning initiative Worldcoin has achieved a significant milestone, with its mobile World App surpassing 4 million downloads, as reported in a blog post by the project’s team on November 1. If this figure is validated by Coingecko, it may position World App as the sixth most downloaded software wallet on Coingecko’s rankings.

The Worldcoin development group, known as “Tools for Humanity,” also reported that it now boasts over 1 million monthly users, a figure that has doubled in the past six months.

Worldcoin is a project that enables users to verify their humanity through iris scans. After a user’s iris is scanned, they are issued a “World ID,” which can be utilized to confirm to applications that they are not automated bots. Each individual who completes the verification process receives 25 Worldcoin (WLD) tokens, currently valued at approximately $46.50.

The initiative has gained traction in developing regions such as Argentina, where some participants have discovered that registering and subsequently selling the tokens can serve as a quick method to earn extra income.

Nonetheless, Worldcoin has faced criticism for purportedly posing risks to privacy. Detractors argue that it is overly centralized and may lead to the public exposure of users’ data.

To withdraw their WLD, Worldcoin users must download the World App to create an account. In its November 1 announcement, the team indicated that the app has now been downloaded over 4 million times. This would place it ahead of the Solana Phantom wallet but behind Bitcoin.com’s Bitcoin wallet on Coingecko’s list of most favored wallets.

Some users who register seem to be remaining engaged and actively using the app post-download. The app has achieved 1 million monthly, 500,000 weekly, and 100,000 daily active users. This figure is double the monthly active users it recorded six months prior, according to the post.

Despite these achievements, the project continues to encounter criticism from certain privacy advocates. On October 2, a parliamentary committee in Kenya directed Worldcoin to cease operations within the country due to privacy issues. The project complied with the directive but also released a statement asserting that it had adhered to all privacy regulations in the nation.
