Worldcoin Discloses Audit Findings Following Criticism of Data Collection Practices

- Nethermind and Least Authority, two security consulting firms, conducted the audit.
- Least Authority identified three issues and proposed six solutions.
As scrutiny of Worldcoin’s data collection methods intensifies, the organization revealed its audit findings on July 28. The recent assessment was carried out by security consulting firms Nethermind and Least Authority.
Worldcoin reported that Nethermind identified 26 security vulnerabilities within the protocol. Of these, 24 were “noted as resolved” during the verification process, one was mitigated, and another was acknowledged. Least Authority found three issues and suggested six solutions. According to the announcement, all three “have been addressed or have planned resolutions.”
The new audit reports evaluate various security dimensions, including the system’s resilience against DoS attacks, potential errors made during implementation, the management of encryption and signing keys, the integrity of stored data, among other factors.
Additionally, the outstanding issue has been addressed, reduced, or has a solution in progress. The single security issue that remained unresolved at the time of verification was labeled as “acknowledged” with a severity classification of “undetermined.”
Uncertain Future Ahead?
In 2021, Worldcoin garnered attention when it offered free tokens to anyone who could demonstrate their humanity through an iris scan using a device known as an “Orb.” The initiative was founded by Sam Altman, who is also the creator of the AI software company OpenAI.
Moreover, some individuals in the cryptocurrency community viewed the launch of the project as the onset of an uncertain future characterized by a loss of privacy. Conversely, others regarded it as a significant measure against the threats posed by advanced AI.
