Innovative technologies such as blockchain are paving the way for a new era of interactions between individuals and the digital realm. This subject is a continually evolving discussion among thought leaders both within and outside the sector, who are attempting to foresee how these technologies will transform the human experience.

On April 25th, the reState Foundation facilitated a virtual discussion featuring co-founder and Ethereum inventor Vitalik Buterin and Sadhguru, the founder of the Isha Foundation, to explore the convergence of technology and human consciousness.

Buterin initiated the dialogue by emphasizing that the essence of blockchain technology revolves around “human coordination and interaction” among individuals. He remarked:

“[Blockchain] is about helping different groups of people come together to be able to trust each other more, to collaborate across larger distances on many different kinds of projects.”

The discussion swiftly progressed to highlight an increasing disparity between the pace of technological advancement and the development of human ethics and consciousness, with the latter lagging behind.

Sadhguru noted that much of this hindrance among humans stems from the necessity to align with a group. The yogi stated that this requirement for self-identification consequently compromises intelligence in favor of “protecting and defending the identity” of that group.

Nevertheless, Buterin pointed out that emerging technologies actually facilitate the recognition of complex identities and foster connections based on shared values. “Ultimately every technology is a social technology in some way,” he stated.

“These are tools to help groups of people organize. There are tools to help people identify things that they value in common.”

He further expressed that while new technologies may not resolve all user issues, the agreements and disagreements within the space could lead to “realized cooperation” and valuable learning experiences. “I think those are the kinds of ideas that I know a lot of people in Ethereum and in those related communities really care about,” he added.

As these technologies continue to gain prominence in users’ lives and in global systems, Sadhguru urged listeners to remain aware that humans represent the “highest level of technology,” and by doing so, we can enhance our interactions with technologies.

“Technology is not just something humans merely create; it is an extension of our consciousness. As we elevate our consciousness, our technology will automatically follow.”

Both speakers underscored that the appropriate application of technologies like blockchain is crucial for its role as a tool for deeper understanding and the elevation of human consciousness.
