UK to expand cryptocurrency crime unit, initiating recruitment drive
The National Crime Agency (NCA) of the United Kingdom aims to enhance its digital assets investigation unit by recruiting four senior investigators for its Complex Financial Crime Team to address crimes associated with cryptocurrency.
The role entails probing into sophisticated crypto fraud, money laundering, and other blockchain-related offenses perpetrated by organized crime syndicates. The investigators will collaborate with a surveillance unit and the police in London.

This position necessitates cooperation with fellow investigators, as well as members of the intelligence and analysis teams, to build intricate cases utilizing data and evidence from diverse sources.
The U.K. has been striving to create a dedicated investigative team targeting illicit cryptocurrency activities. On January 4, the NCA inaugurated its digital assets team, indicating a heightened emphasis on crypto assets. The establishment of this unit was motivated by a rise in the value lost to cryptocurrency fraud in the U.K. during 2022. As per the U.K.’s cybercrime and fraud reporting system, crypto scammers appropriated at least $287 million in 2022.
