Ubisoft Introduces Web3 Game; Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles

- A new title named Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles was announced late last week.
- Ubisoft has disclosed that their forthcoming game will be developed on the Oasys blockchain.
Ubisoft, known for franchises like Assassin’s Creed and Just Dance, was among the first major traditional gaming companies to embrace blockchain technology and continues to do so. A new Web3 game from the studio has been unveiled.
The recently announced PC game, Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles, is set to deliver an engaging PvP tactical role-playing experience.
The teaser trailer provides only brief glimpses of the fantasy setting, with no still images available. However, it appears to depict mythical character forms, indicating that the design may draw inspiration from the aesthetics of traditional board games.
Oasys is a blockchain network specifically tailored for the gaming sector, having already garnered interest from firms such as Square Enix, Sega, and Bandai Namco. Ubisoft has confirmed that their upcoming title, Champions Tactics, will utilize this platform.
NFT Inclusion
Furthermore, the game will be available on PC via a standalone desktop application, meaning it is not a web-based title, and the official website has indicated a “free drop at launch” to facilitate gameplay. This implies that Ubisoft will provide non-fungible tokens (NFTs) at no cost at launch for use in Champions Tactics, although their future utilization may be required.
The launch of that pilot initiative, which was the most publicized integration of NFTs into a well-known mass-market game, faced considerable backlash from consumers. This occurred in 2021 when Ubisoft announced the addition of NFT-based items.
Concerns regarding digital assets, NFT scams, and publishers attempting to extract additional funds from customers are among the reasons many participants harbor skepticism towards NFTs.
