  • Daniel Shin’s legal team requested more time from Judge Jang Seong-hoon.
  • To mount his defense, Daniel Shin has assembled a group of 30 lawyers.

Prosecutors have summoned Terra co-founders Daniel Shin and seven others to court on multiple charges as South Korea seeks the extradition of Terra co-founder Do Kwon from Montenegro. During the initial trial in South Korea, the court examined allegations of fraud, breach of duty, embezzlement, and violations of the Capital Markets Act against Daniel Shin and the seven others.

During the first session at the Seoul Southern District Court, Daniel Shin’s legal representatives requested additional time from Judge Jang Seong-hoon. A local news outlet reported on July 10 that Daniel Shin did not attend the hearing in person.

New Hearing Scheduled

The court approved the request and set a new hearing date for August 28. The prosecution has expressed frustration over the delays. To defend himself, Daniel Shin has enlisted a team of 30 attorneys, including former judges, prosecutors, and specialists in digital asset and capital markets law.

The judge stated:

“We will review the lawyers’ opinions and reschedule the trial preparation date to determine the defense opportunities and the order of questioning.”

On April 25, the Seoul Southern District Prosecutor’s Office charged Daniel Shin and seven others with various offenses, including fraud, breach of duty, violations of the Capital Markets Act, and embezzlement. Additionally, two other individuals faced charges related to breach of trust.

The prosecution believes that the case has been affected by the prolonged process of extraditing Do Kwon from Montenegro and the subsequent judicial proceedings in South Korea.
