Polygon co-founder resigns, plans to assist ‘from the sidelines'

Jaynti Kanani, one of the co-founders of Polygon, revealed that he has stepped back “from the day-to-day grind” of the project for the first time in six years.

In a thread on X (formerly Twitter) dated Oct. 4, Kanani expressed his intention to concentrate “on new adventures” while still contributing to Polygon “from the sidelines.” Together with software engineers Sandeep Nailwal, Anurag Arjun, and Mihailo Bjelic, Kanani was instrumental in establishing the Matic network in 2017, which was subsequently rebranded as Polygon.

“Man this makes me emotional,” Nailwal remarked in reaction to the announcement. “What a ride we’ve had together brother. But it’s just the beginning for Polygon; I wish we could’ve accomplished more together for a longer time in this wild journey that is Polygon. But hey, you have to do what you have to do.”

Polygon’s website identifies 10 co-founders of the protocol, several of whom remain engaged in various side projects on the platform. Arjun left Polygon in March with the launch of the blockchain data availability protocol Avail.

Polygon Labs has commenced accepting improvement proposals aimed at transitioning the network to Polygon 2.0 since the announcement of plans in June. The new ecosystem will utilize zero-knowledge proofs and consist of four protocol layers focused on staking, interoperability, execution, and proving. At the time of publication, developers were still working on “bringing Polygon 2.0 to life.”
