Orbs and The Open Network Launch Decentralized Governance on TON0

The Layer-3 infrastructure network designed for decentralized applications, Orbs, has revealed the permissionless beta launch of TON.Vote, an innovative -based governance solution for The Open Network (TON). According to Orbs, any project utilizing TON that wishes to implement DAO-based governance can now leverage TON.Vote, with STON.fi, EvAA, TON Punks, and Fanzee being among the initial official launch partners.

Following extensive collaboration between Orbs and the TON Foundation, which acted as the primary design partner for the app’s development, TON.Vote has been officially introduced. The application was crafted by Orbs in close partnership with the TON Foundation to address the requirements of both The Open Network and the projects within its ecosystem.

With TON.Vote, all governance proposals and voting can now occur on-chain. The merkle tree of all votes is transparently stored on IPFS and can be independently verified by any user. Each time a user submits a proposal, a smart contract is created that references the merkle tree of all votes. Users of TON.Vote cast their votes (yes/no/abstain) by submitting a transaction to the smart contract, which is then processed off-chain before the results are finalized, as per the current implementation. Eventually, users’ votes will only require a digital signature from their wallet, secured by IPFS. If a uniform wallet signature is adopted across all dApps, votes will be validated using a wallet sign and will incur no gas fees.

TON.Vote employs Orbs’ L3 Guardians technology to ensure that the votes displayed in the user interface are accurate and correspond with the data stored in the smart contract, thereby enhancing security. The Orbs Guardians verify that there are no discrepancies in the data presented on the front end. This adds an additional layer of security by safeguarding each vote through manual chain checks and independent validators, reinforcing the transparent process.

Following the soft launch of TON.Vote, it facilitated two significant community votes for the TON community and its ecosystem. The first was a “Proposal of TON Optimization,” which sought community feedback on whether to freeze inactive Genesis mining wallets after 48 months. These wallets, holding over 20% of the total supply of $TON, had raised considerable concern within the community. By voting “Yes” to distribute 171 Genesis wallets, 71% of the community opted to resolve the uncertainty. Over 1.4 million votes were cast in this election.

In the second vote, more than 695,000 $TON holders participated to determine the prize rankings for TON’s recent “Hack-a-TON” x DoraHacks competition.

The Open Network and Orbs are ushering in a new era of decentralized governance on one of the most advanced and robust Layer-1 networks available with TON.Vote.
