OpenSea-Supported 'Americana' Vaulting Platform Launches for Public Access0

  • Americana is supported by OpenSea and the venture capital firm 776.
  • Americana facilitates the digital showcasing, sharing, and trading of assets that are physically stored in vaults.

The vaulting platform Americana is becoming more available to the public. Initially a local project, it has evolved into a comprehensive service that merges the advantages of an online marketplace with those of a secure storage solution and blockchain-based ownership verification.

Americana is backed by OpenSea and 776, the venture capital firm established by Alexis Ohanian, known for his association with Reddit. Jake Frey, the CEO of the company, is also the founder and creative director of Frey Labs, a digital design agency that has worked with clients such as Apple, Snapchat, Shopify, and Twitter.

Transforming Vault Storage

Traditional methods of vaulting valuables in banks and art storage facilities, which have been in place since the 19th century, often restrict public access for display or purchase. Americana aims to change this paradigm.

Americana allows for the digital showcasing, sharing, and trading of assets that are physically stored in vaults. Tokenized representations of the listed items can be exchanged without the need for the buyer or seller to visit the actual location, as their authenticity is confirmed through an on-chain digital certificate.

The platform can accommodate a wide range of items, from valuable artwork to rare sneakers to vintage cars. As Frey notes, “items can be as large and heavy as a vehicle but also as small and light as a stamp.”

The initial phase involves consulting with transportation experts to develop a tailored intake strategy. Once received, assets are authenticated, digitized, and documented before being securely stored. In light of increasing hacks and spam attacks, this innovative approach is likely to appeal to art collectors worldwide.
