Open Campus Introduces $10 Million Web3 Educators Fund Following Initial Live DAO Vote
The voting phase for a significant community decision regarding a $10 million educational fund for web3 is nearing its conclusion. This marks the inaugural use of a DAO to distribute funds to creators of educational content. The proposal for the $10 million global educator fund is currently active through the first-ever education DAO.
Key supporters such as TinyTap, Animoca Brands, GEMS Education, Liberty City Ventures, and others collaborated with Open Campus to establish the $10 million Global Educators Fund (the “Fund”) in May 2023. This initiative aims to finance individual educators and content creators to develop educational resources utilizing a decentralized approach for the first time in history.
Animoca Brands, a leader in web3 gaming and the metaverse, announced on May 15 its contribution to the Global Educators Fund, which was initiated by Open Campus Protocol to enhance education through the introduction of web3-based solutions.
The Fund aims to promote subjects that complement the traditional curriculum (such as emotional intelligence, life skills, etc.) but may not have historically received sufficient funding from schools or government sources. The courses will be tokenized and offered as Publisher NFTs, which will be minted in EDU. Additionally, the funds will be shared with the author, co-publisher, partner, and DAO, all denominated in EDU.

What are they? How will they affect you? Why are they shaping the future of NFTs and how is Open Campus leading the way?

The community cast votes on the initial round of Global Educators Fund proposals on June 15 to determine how the organization, supported by partners like TinyTap and Animoca Brands, will allocate the first round of funding from the $10M pool.
Educators from around the world have proposed educational materials utilizing various multimedia formats. The DAO discussed and voted on the first set of ten submissions on June 15. Over 300 ideas were submitted for community evaluation, and the DAO had the opportunity to vote on each qualifying proposal. The inaugural winners of the Global Educators Fund will be announced following the voting on June 22.
The proposed courses include:
- 1. English language for pre-k students
- 2. Gearing Up For Reading
- 3. Teaching Dyslexic students
- 4. STEAM Unit for Teaching Time Concepts
- 5. A Loving Hug
- 6. Reading and Writing Enhancement
- 7. SEL – Circle of Friends
- 8. Solar Energy Immersion for students
- 9. SCORA-Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights including HIV and AIDS
- 10. Foundations of Mathematics
The Global Educators Fund was created to inspire educators and promote the development of high-quality instructional materials. Course creators retain their digital property rights, ensuring that all educators maintain control over their creative works and will receive compensation through grant funds.
The grant recipients of the Global Educators Fund will be selected for the first time after the voting concludes on June 22 for this ambitious web3 educational initiative. Based on the Ideation Guidelines and the selection criteria for the Global Educator Fund outlined on the website, the DAO Administrator has identified the initial group of 10 submissions. The Open Campus DAO will now decide whether to endorse the first 10 course proposals.
It is important to note that applications for the Fund are evaluated on a rolling basis. The first batch of submissions included in this proposal represents only a small fraction of the total applications that will ultimately be supported by the Fund. Applicants will receive further communication from the DAO Administrator, either requesting additional information to support the initial proposal or notifying them of a denial.
