“Joe Rogan and Post Malone criticize US government’s CBDC initiative”
Podcaster and commentator Joe Rogan has criticized the concept of a central bank digital currency in the United States, labeling a digital dollar as a “game over” situation for American citizens.
In an episode aired on Aug. 8 of the popular podcast Joe Rogan Experience, Rogan and rapper Post Malone shifted their focus to issues related to the U.S. financial system, specifically addressing the potential for power abuses associated with CBDCs in the United States.
Rogan’s podcast generally attracts over 11 million listeners per episode. At the same time, Post Malone has a total of 31 million followers across X and Instagram. This discussion comes as the topic of CBDCs has begun to enter U.S. presidential campaign dialogues.
Rogan was direct when asked about his views on a CBDC:
“No fucking way. No way. That’s what I think. I think that’s checkmate. That’s game over.”
Rogan elaborated on a scenario in which an oppressive government could link the distribution of a CBDC to an individual’s social credit score, suggesting that citizens could be easily denied access to their finances for rule violations.
“If they decide somehow or another that you need some social credit score system and it’s for the benefit of society, and they outline that, they can track your behavior and your tweets and all your things […] They just decided you messed up, and the rules are the rules,” he stated.

Malone also expressed his worries regarding the banking system in the United States, pointing out that FDIC insurance only protects bank account balances up to $250,000.
The two also talked about the contentious decision made by the Canadian government to freeze the bank accounts linked to the “Freedom Convoy” truckers in February of the previous year.

Malone contended that the U.S. government exerts excessive control over the financial transactions of ordinary citizens, suggesting that they could potentially halt funding to anyone without warning.
This sentiment resonates with the views of strong advocates for decentralized cryptocurrencies.

Meanwhile, the conversation surrounding CBDCs has become a significant topic in U.S. politics. In July, Republican presidential candidate and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis pledged to prohibit CBDCs in the U.S. if he were to be elected president.
Conversely, Democratic candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has criticized CBDCs as tools of “control,” and instead vowed to support the U.S. dollar with tangible assets, including Bitcoin (BTC), if he were to win the presidency.
