Fraudsters establish counterfeit Blockworks website to deplete cryptocurrency wallets

Phishing fraudsters have replicated the websites of the crypto media platform Blockworks and the Ethereum blockchain explorer Etherscan to deceive unaware users into engaging with a fraudulent site.

A counterfeit Blockworks site features a fabricated “BREAKING” news article regarding an alleged multimillion-dollar “approvals exploit” on the decentralized exchange Uniswap, urging users to visit a spoofed Etherscan site to revoke approvals.

The fraudulent Etherscan site, which claims to offer a token and smart contract approval checker, actually contains a smart contract that could potentially drain a when connected.

An examination of the domain registration reveals that the fraudulent Etherscan site — approvalscan.io — was registered on October 25, while the counterfeit Blockworks site — blockworks.media was registered the following day.
