Elon Musk set to introduce an AI platform focused on truth verification, named TruthGPT.
As reported in an April 18 article by Fox News, Elon Musk informed the media outlet’s host Tucker Carlson that he is in the process of creating a ChatGPT competitor named “TruthGPT,” a large language model (LLM) that Musk claims will be designed to investigate the enigmas of the universe.
“I’m going to initiate something which I refer to as TruthGPT, or a maximum truth-seeking AI that aims to comprehend the nature of the universe,” Musk stated.
This truth-seeking AI, according to Musk, will also counter what he views as “left wing” bias within the sector. Musk conveyed to Carlson that ChatGPT “is programmed by left-wing experts, which train the chatbots to deceive.” He also seemed to respond to apprehensions regarding his entry into the competitive LLM market, which he indicated by acquiring a reported 10,000 GPUs, just weeks after endorsing a petition that called for a halt on related research to assess safety issues. Carlson, for his part, remarked that “the deeper problem is not merely that it will become autonomous and turn us all into slaves, but that it will manipulate our perception of reality and do so in a very dishonest manner. It could be designed to mislead us for political purposes.”
According to the Fox News article, Musk stated, “I believe this might be the most effective route to safety in the sense that an AI that is focused on understanding the universe is unlikely to destroy humans because we are a fascinating aspect of the universe.”
Musk also seemed to address concerns regarding his entry into the competitive LLM market — a move he indicated with the acquisition of a reported 10,000 GPUs — shortly after signing a petition advocating for a pause on related research to evaluate safety issues.
