Companies integrate blockchain and augmented reality to create a port maintenance solution.

Blockchain solutions provider Jelurida has formed a partnership with augmented reality (AR) company Aumenta Solutions to create a maintenance system for port infrastructures.

As stated in an announcement sent to Cointelegraph, the initiative seeks to enhance efficiency, minimize downtime, and improve the precision of maintenance activities for ports, which play a crucial role in accommodating ships, cargo, and passengers.

In 2020, a research team from the University of Girona and Aumenta Solutions worked together to establish a blockchain-based maintenance system that integrates blockchain certification and AR to boost the traceability of maintenance activities.

Currently, Aumenta Solutions and information technology firm MSI are focusing on the global port infrastructure market with this technology. Pere Roset, the managing partner at Aumenta Solutions, indicated that their project is based on the blockchain certification program. Roset elaborated:

“The certification program is an important component of the project, ensuring that maintenance tasks are done properly at the right place and at the right time.”

Francisco Sarrias from Jelurida also remarked on the significance of AR for maintenance. Sarrias refers to AR as a “game-changer” as it enables workers to access digital information in real time. “We are excited to introduce this new technology to the industry and help drive innovation in maintenance processes,” Sarrias stated.

AR has been increasingly utilized within the domain. During the recent Metaverse Fashion Week, a hybrid AR fashion runway was showcased at the Piazza of Duomo di Milano, one of the most renowned locations in Milan, Italy.

In addition, whisky producer Jack Daniels has recently launched a Web3 campaign that incorporates AR and Polygon-based digital collectibles. This campaign will allow participants to collect digital crates containing various rewards such as gift vouchers and trips to Jack Daniel’s distillery.
