Coinbase Layer-2 Network Base Approaches Mainnet Deployment1

  • On February 23, Coinbase officially launched Base.
  • Base has yet to provide a specific date for the mainnet launch.

In preparation for the mainnet launch of Base, Coinbase confirmed on Wednesday that its Ethereum Layer-2 network underwent comprehensive security assessments performed by researchers. Reports suggest that Coinbase engaged its protocol security team for a six-month internal audit to rigorously evaluate the security of Base, which is constructed on the OP stack in partnership with Optimism, as announced in February.

P.S. If you are tracking progress, with the completion of these audits, we have now met ⅘ of our criteria for mainnet launch…https://t.co/eRarQ4R7zG https://t.co/9o3vNidNtE

Coinbase remarked:

The team reviewed all of Optimism’s pre-deployments and on both layer 1 and to detect any potential security vulnerabilities.

The aim of Layer-2 solutions is to improve the cost-effectiveness and efficiency of transactions on networks like Ethereum. These solutions accomplish this by processing transactions in a distinct environment and then relaying the results back to their respective network.

Although Base has not specified a date for the mainnet launch, it has clarified that, in contrast to other layer 2 blockchains such as Polygon, Optimism, and Arbitrum, it will not introduce a native token into its ecosystem.
