Cardano Creator Charles Hoskinson Unveils Updates on Rollup Strategy

- Hoskinson mentioned in an AMA earlier this April that ZK-rollups will soon be implemented on Cardano.
- The CEO indicated that the deployment is progressing rapidly, with Midnight anticipated to be the initial user.
In an interesting update, Cardano CEO and founder Charles Hoskinson addresses the recent integration of rollups into the network. The founder was queried about which project he referred to when discussing rollups or a rollup strategy in two distinct YouTube sessions this year.
The sidechains project necessitates it. We are executing on a very ambitious timeline. Midnight will be the first user

Hoskinson stated in an AMA back in April that ZK-rollups will soon be accessible on Cardano and that a “beautiful plan” was being developed. In response to a user’s question, Hoskinson noted that rollups are essential for certain “sidechain” projects. He also mentioned that the rollout is occurring swiftly, with Midnight expected to be the first user.
Trustless Ecosystem
Midnight, a privacy-centric blockchain introduced by Cardano developer Input Output Global last year, will operate as a sidechain of Cardano. By merging private and public computing with zero-knowledge cryptography (ZK proofs), Midnight aims to create a trustless ecosystem for the secure and compliant management of private and commercial data. Potential applications include financial transactions, healthcare data, and supply chain oversight.
Cardano has made progress in advancing Layer 2 solutions, particularly sidechains and off-chain solutions (like ZK rollups), which function independently from the primary blockchain.
The team behind Cardano, Input Output Global (IOG), has issued a new update for Mithril, a solution intended to enhance the platform’s speed and security.
On July 20th, IOG revealed that Mithril has entered the testnet phase. In the coming months, it will be gradually rolled out to the mainnet. Cardano’s lead developer has expressed hope that Mithril will enhance the mainnet’s speed and performance, although it recognizes that the full impact will take some time to materialize.
