The X (Twitter) account belonging to Blockchain Capital, a venture capital firm focused on cryptocurrency, appears to have been compromised by scammers who are trying to deceive users with the promise of a token giveaway.

On August 9, the account of Blockchain Capital published several messages announcing a giveaway of “BCAP” tokens and directed users to a fraudulent website that mimics the design of the firm’s authentic site.

The fraudulent website—featuring an extra “n” in the URL—encourages users to link their cryptocurrency wallets, a typical strategy employed by phishing scammers to siphon off user funds.

The scammers strategically disabled the comments section to hinder others from alerting potential victims about the scam.

This is fake. Don’t get scammed. https://t.co/kQyo3NuIx4

The counterfeit site imitates the official Blockchain Capital website by falsely asserting investments in major cryptocurrency companies such as Coinbase, Kraken, and OpenSea.

This is an evolving situation, and additional details will be provided as they emerge.
