Satoshi-Era Bitcoin Whale Awakens After 12 Years, Moving $11 Million in 400 BTC

- On Monday, the whale sent 360 BTC (equivalent to $9.8 million) to a single wallet.
- There are still 600 BTC remaining in the wallet.
While Bitcoin’s price fell for three consecutive days last week, several “whales” holding large sums of the cryptocurrency activated their dormant wallets. Historically, this pattern has been associated with a subsequent rise in the asset’s price.
However, this activity could also indicate large traders seeking to exit positions at current prices in preparation for a potential bear market in the coming days. After 12 years without any Bitcoin transactions, a “whale” from the Satoshi era transferred 400 BTC, valued at approximately $11 million.
Whales Relocating Assets
On Monday, the whale sent 360 BTC (equivalent to $9.8 million) to a single wallet and an additional 40 BTC to various other addresses. The wallet still holds 600 BTC. This trend has become more widespread recently, as previously dormant whale populations have begun “waking up” and relocating their assets.
Following a 10-year hiatus, another “whale” recently transferred 279 Bitcoins (worth approximately $7.6 million) to fresh wallets.
Earlier this year, the number of Bitcoin “whales”—defined as holders with more than 1,000 BTC—dropped to its lowest level in three years. However, BTC whales have recently reasserted their influence as investors through these recent on-chain activities.
The largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization has increased in value by over 40,000% over the last decade, offering significant returns to patient investors. As of the latest data from CoinMarketCap (CMC), Bitcoin’s price stands at $27,404.64, representing a 7.10% drop over the past week. The upcoming BTC halving event may significantly alter its value, while future interest rate hikes could also impact Bitcoin’s price trajectory.
