Flare Joins XRPL Validator List as Anodos Finance Exits0

The XRP Ledger Foundation has officially included Flare Networks in its recommended validator list, acknowledging the project's contribution to the network's infrastructure.

In a recent update on X, the Foundation noted that Flare embodies the core values of the XRP Ledger and is an active participant in its governance. The Foundation also highlighted the project's broader contributions to the ecosystem.

What the Validator Changes Mean for the XRP Ledger

Concurrently, the Foundation removed Anodos Finance from the list after the project requested its own removal prior to a scheduled shutdown of its validator node by the end of October. The Foundation expressed gratitude for the team's contributions and cooperation with the XRP community.

After these updates, the Foundation’s recommended list and Ripple’s corresponding list share 35 matching validator keys. Both lists also feature a validator manifest associated with a domain linked to Flare.

These recommended lists assist server operators in selecting which validators to trust when setting up their Unique Node Lists (UNLs). A UNL specifies the validators that a server relies on to achieve consensus on new ledgers.

In addition to reaching consensus, validators play a key role in network governance by voting on protocol amendments that modify the XRP Ledger's operations. An amendment becomes active only if it receives more than 80% support from trusted validators over two consecutive weeks.

Flare’s Role in the XRP Ledger

Flare publicly thanked the XRP Ledger Foundation and the reviewers who evaluated its application. This inclusion coincides with the project's development of services that link XRP holders to decentralized finance applications.

These services include FXRP, which utilizes the FAssets system to bring XRP onto the Flare network, and Flare Smart Accounts. The latter enables users to access applications on Flare using their XRPL wallets without transferring custody of their assets to a third party.

However, being added to the recommended list does not automatically alter the configuration of every XRP Ledger server. Server operators retain the option to maintain custom Unique Node Lists (UNLs) instead of adopting the recommendations from the Foundation or Ripple.

Validators do not receive direct XRP rewards from the protocol for their participation in consensus. Their primary function is to help maintain network reliability and support decisions on protocol changes, without receiving direct financial incentives from the ledger itself.
